The mission of the Employment Program is to help our members, based on their career goals and past experience, and identify matching job opportunities. The program also provides employment coaching and guidance to job seekers so that they can secure and maintain long-term employment.
Assistance with employment includes helping write resumes and cover letters, searching for jobs, applying for jobs, following up with employers, preparing for interviews, providing transportation and assist during interviews when necessary, assisting with the onboarding process, helping with interpretation during orientation and other phases of the hiring process, and mediating in case of crisis between employee and employer 
Refugee & Immigrant Self-Empowerment (RISE) provides all essential services to ensure that all New Americans can live productive lives, engage in their communities, and continue to pursue successful integration. RISE Bridging Case Managers assist refugees and immigrants in navigating everyday tasks that may seem overwhelming or complex but are ultimately necessary for their path to self-sufficiency.

One Step at a Time

The Individual Development Account program (IDA) at RISE is an opportunity for any refugee or immigrant who has been in the U.S. less than five years to receive assistance in building their financial future!

The Department comprises two branches: Employment & Case Management. The overall mission of both streams is to assist and ultimately equip New Americans with the necessary tools to achieve financial and economic independence.

  • Case Management: help refugees and immigrants acclimate to their new environments with the assistance of in-house and outside resources to emerge as empowered, confident, and self-sufficient.

Bridging Case Management

Bridging Case Management help refugees and immigrants acclimate to their new environments with the assistance of in-house and outside resources to emerge as empowered, confident, and self-sufficient.

It was the primary program started when RISE was known as the Somali Bantu Association of Syracuse, New York and continues to be even today.  On a typical day RISE bridging case managers serve approximately 20 people. Some services offered include Housing assistance and referrals, Family and personal crisis intervention, Interpretation and document translation, Community resource referrals, Mediation services, Phone calls & Appointment scheduling, Help with filling out forms.

Partnering with many local companies, RISE has expanded its employment network and provides a growing number of refugees and immigrants with long-term employment. Among the Employment Services offered at RISE: comprehensive career assessment, workforce readiness training, resume preparation and job applications, support with interviews, help with interpretation during orientations, support with onboarding, crisis intervention and mediation.

Current Programs Under Self-Sufficiency Department

Match Grant Program:

Refugees are assessed and matched to jobs with the skills they have in the shortest period to steer them away from the dependence on government benefits.

Welfare Reduction Program:

Create career pathways for adults from distressed communities by establishing workforce and education strategies that align with Central New York employers’ needs. The goal is to enable the clients served to become economically self-sufficient and non-dependent on welfare.

USARA:

The USARA Program provides refugee support services, including employment assistance, case management, skills training, English as a second language, assistance in applying for Employment Authorization Documents and, when necessary, housing and food assistance to certain eligible individuals who have arrived in the U.S. from Ukraine.
